“What artist so noble … as he who, with far-reaching conception of beauty, in designing power, sketches the outlines, writes the colors and directs the shadows of a picture so great that Nature shall be employed upon it for generations, before the work he arranged for her shall realize his intentions.”
-Frederick Law Olmsted
My name is Kevin Wobrock and my interest in nature and landscaping goes all the way back to my childhood. I grew up along the beautiful Illinois River Valley near Starved Rock State Park. I spent countless hours hiking the nature trails and exploring along the Illinois River. As a young boy, I hiked the tributaries of the Illinois River with my friends and each season, we would catch a nasty case of poison ivy. We took it in stride, however, thinking this was a normal way for young boys to grow up. I spent many, many days with Calamine lotion covering my body.
As I grew up, my appreciation for nature and horticulture deepened, and I attended Southern Illinois University. While working on a degree in plant and soil science, I enjoyed learning about a vast array of plants and experienced the rustic nature of Shawnee National Forest.
Upon graduating, I spent seven years working for several different landscape companies, where I acquired a broad range of landscape knowledge and experience. In 1986, I founded Wobrock's Design & Landscape Co., Inc., in Wheaton and became certified as a landscape architect.
It has always been my goal to provide my clients with high quality, low-maintenance designs. I take special pride in energizing my clients about the beauty of nature in general and the calming attributes of a beautiful landscape in particular. My passion for horticulture thrives as deeply within me today as it did when I was a young boy -- without the Calamine lotion. |
